Nowadays quantum computer race is going on and everyone knows who is the king of quantum technology. Google continues to research such quantum chips which are way faster than traditional computing.
Quantum computer is not a new technology, Google began Quantum AI in 2012. They are constantly working to harness the power of quantum mechanics. Interestingly they are improving this technology by doing experiments around qubits. Quantum chip is the brain of this technology. To operate this chip surround temperature should be under 0 degree celsius.
They recently launched a new quantum chip named Willow.
Google achieved a new milestone by using this chip. The fastest supercomputer in the world would take 1025 years to perform the calculation which is more than the age of the universe, whereas Willow did it in 5 minutes. Willow is septillions of times faster than a classical computing chip – it would take a classical computer 10 septillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) years to simulate what Willow can do in 300 seconds
Quantum roadmap
It’s the first quantum chip to show exponential error reduction as qubits scale, paving the way for large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. This chip is one of the milestones of Google quantum journey. I have shared one timetable below-
One terminology spreading around the world is SNDL i.e. Store Now, Decrypt Later. Quantum computers could eventually break some popular encryptions like RSA, Diffie-Hellman ECC etc. People store the hashes of algorithms and in future, they will decrypt them. They will use the quantum computer power to decrypt the encryption. The traditional computer took more than a thousand years to decrypt it. For quantum computers, it could break easily within minutes.
